Wellington Town Council

Wellington has a recorded history that predates the Domesday Book. It is a unique market town that has retained its town centre's medieval street layout of narrow streets. The town is situated on the western perimeter of Telford & Wrekin Borough within the beautiful countryside of Shropshire, next to the famous mountain of The Wrekin. There are many amenities and interests that attract the visitor to Wellington, the most notable of which are its long standing regular market and its yearly literary festival. The people of Wellington have a sense of belonging and civic pride in their town.

The Town Council actively pursues the interests of its town and all its inhabitants, in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council. Town Councillors are mindful of their responsibilities and work hard to monitor and promote their town's economic, cultural and environmental development. This work is undertaken through the Council's monthly meetings, as well as within varying active committees and working groups. These include the Planning, the Promotions & Liaison, and the Policy & Resources committees.

Over the next five years considerable financial investment will be placed into the structure of Wellington's town centre. Funding for this investment will come from Wellington Town Council, Telford & Wrekin Borough Council, Advantage West Midlands and the Heritage Lottery Fund. As a result of the committed work of Wellington Town Partnership, Telford & Wrekin Borough Council and The Town Council Wellington is being regenerated to meet the needs of the 21st century.
