Shopping
Wellington is a thriving market town in the heart of Shropshire. The market is operated as a result of a Royal Charter, probably one of the very oldest in the
country, granted over 750 years ago in 1244. Market days are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays when the activity of the traders brings the town to life. The market is easily the best in the whole of Shropshire.
The Market Company which, as well as owning Wellington Market, operates almost 40 other markets throughout both England and Wales, has recently developed Market Street into a busy shopping centre with many small retail outlets.
There are several intimate cafes and eating houses with 'Sophias' in New Street being the oldest established business in town.
It is served by two major supermarkets, Morrisons and Aldi, with Tesco situated on the retail park just outside the town. Several multi national stores are also located in the town with Wilkinson's, Woolworth's, Boots, Dunhelm being just a few. Together with a number of small independent specialist shops and the numerous family operated outlets Wellington continues to thrive, attracting shoppers from all over the region.
Access to the town is well signposted with a ring road allowing the town streets to be pedestrianised on market days. The town has several good-sized car parks where parking is both plentiful and free at all times.
Wellington continues to be a busy but friendly shopping centre where shoppers can walk the streets in safety, browse in comfort and still receive that same friendly and personal service that British shopkeepers were renowned for before the advent of the many impersonal retail parks.
The town also offers many opportunities for, those wishing to set themselves up in a small retail business. There are a number of outlets with competitively priced rents to suit all budgets. Wellington has been the place where many much larger businesses were originally conceived.
