Wellington History Group
Wellington History Group began quietly at the end of November 2007, when George Evans invited a few of his acquaintances to explore the possibility of forming a history group for the town. Since then we have met once a month to discuss ideas and the best way forward. For the time being, we have decided not to hold public meetings simply because we want to have something to offer and be able to continue offering something to keep people’s interest ongoing.
Much will depend on if we are successful in obtaining a grant to fulfil our aims, which are listed in our Constitution. Everything costs money these days but if we are able to obtain finance we hope to produce a quarterly magazine which will be free, for the first year at least, and obtainable from public libraries, Wellington News shop in Crown Street, Wellington and various other retail outlets.
The magazine will contain articles on a variety of subjects, initially written by core members of our Group. Many of you already know about the numerous books on Wellington and The Wrekin by George Evans and Allan Frost, as well as the free booklets produced by Wellington LA21. Articles in our magazine will be on subjects not covered before or which may not, in themselves, be suitable for a full book.
We need your help!
It’s all very well members of the Group doing their own thing, but we want to involve anyone and everyone with an interest in Wellington and its neighbourhood. That’s why we’d like you to print off and complete a copy of our Questionnaire, and send it to us with your comments.
We need to know whether you have anything which may help with our research but, more to the point, we’d like to know what particular interests you have in the history of our area.
If you have any questions, please contact one of the members listed below.
