The Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Patricia Fairclough, today opened the newly refurbished A J’s Cafe on behalf of the new owner Avril Whitehead. On a bright sunny December market day the cafe, which is located in the outdoor section of the market, opened with son, and Chef, Taylor Whitehead. Taylor said “A love of food and cooking is in our family” as he went to work in the sparkling new kitchen.
It is the heart of the outdoor section of the market, and people were taking the opportunity to ‘socially distance’ and be in the fresh air. Inviting new furniture both inside and out was encouraging customers to stop after their shopping sprees. The new owners have had a completely new kitchen fitted along with electrical wiring and light fittings to brighten the interior which is graced by the feature windows.
The Mayor, Cllr Patricia Fairclough and her husband were most reluctant to leave. Unusually for Wellington Market, it is going to open every day from today, Tuesday 15th December until Christmas Eve, 24th December (except Sundays) That has been arranged by the Market Manager, Herlander Alcobia.
