Wellington Festival 2022

Peggie Harrison Schools Poetry Competition

Wellington Town Council would like to invite you to take part in the Peggie Harrison Schools Poetry Competition, as part of the 26th annual Wellington Festival.

We are reaching out to budding poets at the schools in our town and hope that they will be inspired to put pen to paper.

Our focus this year is: 2022 The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year

The specific titles for the three age groups are as follows:

5-7 Years         8-11 Years     12-16 Years

There is no specific title for each age category and the subject can be interpreted widely to include qualities and duties, a historical perspective, changes in society over the decades since 1952 or any other interpretation.

There will be 9 overall winners, each receiving £20 and a certificate, signed by the Mayor of Wellington. The winning entries will be displayed in Wellington Library and it is hoped that the winners can meet the Mayor at the Town Council Offices, after the Jubilee celebrations, so that they can receive their prizes.

How to enter:

Please email your entry and be sure to include your name, age and school, with a subject heading of POETRY to:

Wellingtonfestival@hotmail.com

The closing date for entries will be Monday 9th May 2022 and winners announced before the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Thank you very much in anticipation.
