The Great British Spring Clean

The Great British Spring Clean is just around the corner, running from 17 March – 2 April 2023.

What is it?

This annual event is run nationally by Keep Britain Tidy, an independent charity with three goals – to eliminate litter, end waste and improve places. They work with a range of partners to care for the environment on our doorstep and run the Great British Spring Clean campaign alongside support from charities, councils and companies. To find out more visit  Keep Britain Tidy.

This year, the campaign is once again calling on #LitterHeroes across the country to join Keep Britain Tidy and to clear litter from our streets, parks and beaches – because what is good for our environment is good for our mental and physical health too.

Why is it important?

All our individual actions can help to transform our borough for the better, creating cleaner and greener parks, open spaces and places to live. Across the country it is also helping to protect our wildlife and ultimately stopping the tide of plastic that is doing so much damage to our oceans and marine life.

The Great British Spring Clean is about demonstrating that you love where you live. This year, Telford & Wrekin Council is once again working with our partners and local residents to organise activities from 17 March to 2 April and encouraging people to help with these events or spare a few hours to litter pick in their own communities.

Fancy getting involved? Get in touch!

Will you be running a local clean-up/litter picking event? Anyone can help with a local event or register their own clean up on the Keep Britain Tidy website. We would love to know what you’re getting up to for this year’s campaign, get in touch via pride.officer@telford.gov.uk to tell us more. We can provide litter bags, organise for bag collection and provide risk assessments.  We can also lend equipment such as litter pickers, hoops.  Please note our lending equipment is limited and will be issued on a first come first serve basis. We can help promote your pick across our social media channels including our Street Champion Facebook page and Volunteer Telford Facebook pages and also to local Street Champions in your area via email.
