The residents in Shawbirch owe a debt of gratitude to the staff of our local Spar.  Since the pandemic started they have kept this shop open and well stocked.  They were among the first retailers to sanitise their shopping baskets, offer a hand cleaning point and limit the number of customers allowed in at any one time.

It is obviously an ‘essential’ shop and so it remained open when others had to close.  A delivery service was offered for those customers who could not leave their homes, and so the staff worked with the neighbourhood volunteers to ensure that everyone had access to their requirements.

The Shawbirch centre businesses have responded so thoughtfully in these difficult times.  The medical practice and pharmacy have put chairs outside so that those waiting can be comfortable as well as ‘socially distanced’.

All these actions have resulted in them forming  services lynch pin for our community.

Now that our Spar has been expanded to include a Post Office and Greggs the regular customers and the Local Councillors of Shawbirch, Bill Tomlinson, Pat Fairclough, Anthony Lowe and Steve De Launey. wish them well.
