The new Wellington Resident Poet is Judi Anderson. Her winning entry, The Bright Side of Life:

“Look on the bright side”,
Isn’t that what they say ,
“Look on the bright side”
And good things come your way .
“Look on the bright side” .
Ignore the trouble and woes,
“Look on the bright side”
Turn from the ‘nevers and no’s”
“Look on the bright side”
Though this may be hard,
“Look on the bright side”
In your own back yard .
Look at the flowers ,
Look at the birds,
Think of your children ,
Think of kind words.
These are our “bright side”
These are our cheer ,
Try to give kindness ,
To be sincere .
We live without bombing ,
We live without war ,
We have warm clothes to put on
And warm beds what’s more .
We can “look on the bright side” ,
How lucky are we.
We live in hope ,
We live in peace – we’re free .
