Wellington Town Council have announced that they will be taking over the running of Wellington Library later this year and in the process creating a new resident’s hub.
The Library, which has 3000 registered users and lends 66,000 items per year, will come into the ownership of the Town Council from April.
The Town Council intent to preserve the opening hours of the facility and look to extend them over a period of time. In addition, residents will be able to access information about Telford & Wrekin Council Services. Again, it is hoped that the provision of these services will extend.
The Town Council will also look to set up a new Friends of Wellington Library and Residents Hub and explore opening up the library for use by more Community groups.
A spokesperson for the Council said
“This is an exciting development with great potential. It means that the current service will be preserved and hopefully expanded over the coming months and years. It comes at a time where the Town Council are also exploring investing further into Wellington Town Centre including purchasing empty properties and exploring ways that the Council can do more to keep Wellington clean and well maintained.”
